Acorns at Benicia State Recreation Area

Tree Care Days in May were delayed until the last day of the month, when the Benicia State Recreation Area (BSRA) project site was visited.  The previous Tree Care Day at this site was last December, at which time we planted acorns at eight locations where the original trees failed to survive.  The Benicia Tree Foundation began experimenting with acorn plantings in 2016 using acorns collected from oaks along the freeway between Benicia and Cordelia.  This was our first opportunity to check on the BSRA sites to see if any acorns sprouted.  Four of the six locations at BSRA had oak sapling emerging.
