Arbor Day iPads offered to Benicia tree experts

BENICIA — Students here have a shot at winning an iPad in two tree-related contests tied to the city’s Arbor Day celebration next month, organizers have announced.

The 2011 Tree Art and Science Challenge is open to students in grades five through 12 residing and attending schools in Benicia.

To win the art challenge, students in grades five through eight must submit an original work of art that depicts the beauty of Benicia trees.

High school students can win the science challenge by submitting a scientific investigation that demonstrates the benefits of trees to the city.

Both contests will be judged by local art, science and civic leaders. Entries are due Oct. 7.
