Tree Pruning Clinic at Semple

Our Second Saturday Tree Care Day for February attracted eight volunteers who registered for the tree pruning clinic at Robert Semple Elementary School.  These volunteers learned about structural pruning and hand tool techniques.   Special thanks to the National Honor Society and Tree Club at Benicia High School who helped recruit volunteers.

22 trees, primarily Pistacia chinensis (Chinese Pistache) and Quercus douglasii (Blue oak) that were planted by Semple students around the playfield in 2013  were pruned.  The Coast live oaks were pruned last year.   Most of the trees  around the playfield have been pruned two or three times since they were planted.
