May 18, 2023 was the 3rd Thursday so a Tree Care Day was organized at Benicia State Recreation Area (BSRA). Fifteen trees were checked and found in various stages of growth, from sprouted acorns to young trees up to 3-feet tall. The tree count was three fewer than found in 2022. Twenty two trees were planted initially at BSRA in 2015.
These trees suffered drought, predation from voles and jack rabbits and unintentional removal by State Park staff. This year it looks like voles will be back since several trees showed damage to bark near the base of the trees. All the trees were showing alot of new growth. The following gallery provide pictures of most of the trees that were maintained that day.
