April Fools Tree Care Day at Benicia Armory

Five volunteers maintained 20 trees on April 1, 2023, no fooling.  This project has not been visited by the Benicia Tree Foundation since 2021.   The trees were planted in 2013 in partnership with the National Guard unit stationed at the Armory and Boy Scout troops from Benicia and Martinez.  All trees needed weeding and mulching.  Structural pruning was needed on the Pistacia chinensis and Quercus agrifolia.  Sufficient progress was made to also weed/mulch 10 trees planted by the Beniicia Tree Foundation two years ago in the adjacent Francesca Terrace Park.  A great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning.

Cameron and Mr. Upton (BHS Science Teacher) maintain Toyon trees planted beneath powerlines at Francesca Terrace Park.
Something is killing the bark on our “tough-as-nails” Pistacia chinensis.
