Tree Care Day at Lake Herman

Fourteen volunteers joined Benicia Tree Foundation board members Alison Fleck and Steven Goetz for today’s Tree Care Day at the Lake Herman Open Space project site.  The sky was sunny and the breeze kept our volunteers cool.  All 67 trees were watered and the last of our vole-proof tree cages were installed.

The volunteers included some new recruits. Many thanks to Valero Benicia Refinery who sponsored several carloads of volunteers.  We appreciate everyone who took time our of their summer to give our trees some TLC.

Benicia Tree Foundation is experimenting with some new outreach tools to recruit volunteeers.  We recently formed a Meet-Up group and we applied to Volunteer Solano to list our tree care days on their website.  We will continue to work hard to ensure the volunteers for our tree care days have adequate instruction, tools, supplies and snacks so they will keep coming back!
