Members of the National Honor Society from Benicia High School volunteered for a Tree Care Day at the Columbus Parkway offramp (Exit 3A) from eastbound I-780 sponsored by the Benicia Tree Foundation. These volunteers weeded around 27 trees planted in Caltrans right-of-way in front of the Benicia State Park entrance in the last several years. This maintenance will help reduce the likelihood that Caltrans will damage the trees when it mows the right-of-way next month to reduce wildfire risk.
The Benicia Tree Foundation has scheduled a similar Tree Care Day for April 26 at the Military West offramp (Exit 3C) from westbound I-780. Eighteen oak and buckeye trees were planted in Caltrans right-of-way at this location in 2020. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and follow Caltrans safety procedures. The Benicia Tree Foundation will provide all training and equipment. Volunteer by clicking on this link https://beniciatrees.org/volunteer/
