Second Saturday Tree Care Days – Progress Report

On most second Saturdays of the month, the Benicia Tree Foundation sponsors Tree Care Days from 9 AM to Noon at one of our project sites to check on the trees we have planted and give them a little TLC.  In January and February, Tree Care Days were held at the Lake Herman Open Space, one of our largest project sites with 100 trees.  In March, the Tree Care Day was held at Joe Henderson Elementary School

Most recently, nine volunteers participated in the Second Saturday Tree Care Day in April at Robert Semple Elementary School.  On this sunny Saturday morning, nearly 50 trees were weeded, mulched, and or pruned.  Volunteers were drawn from Mr. Upton’s classes at Benicia High School, the Benicia High Key Club, Boy Scout Troop  7008, Liberty High, and Semple Elementary’s kindergarten class.

The Second Saturday Tree Care Day in May (May 12th) is tentatively scheduled at the Benicia High School project site.  The tentative nature is due to the solar panel project under construction at the upper student parking lot which is currently blocking access to most of the trees.  We hope the construction fences are removed by May 12th.

Check this website for the latest news on Tree Care Days.  We ask volunteers to register so we can provide sufficient tools, supplies and snacks.  Volunteers can register three different ways – thru this website, email your contact information to info@beniciatrees.org, or call 745-4546 and leave your name and phone number.
