Some of the best of Benicia came out on Saturday morning to enhance Channing Circle Park with nine new trees. “It was a great collaboration of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venture Scouts, the Benicia Tree Foundation, and the City,” said Wade MacAdam, Assistant Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 108.
Over thirty kids and their parents received instructions from Theron Jones, Parks Supervisor and Arborist for Benicia’s Parks and Community Services Department, on how to plant a tree. Following these instructions, the scouts and their supporters had the nine Chinese pistache trees planted, staked, mulched and watered within an hour.
Refreshments and tools for the scouts were provided by the Benicia Tree Foundation. The City of Benicia provided the trees and supplies and will be maintaining the trees. “We hope to make tree planting an annual community event for our Pack,” said MacAdam.
