Benicia Arbor Day Tree Planting on October 19

Southampton Park is the venue for Benicia’s Arbor Day 2024 event to be held on Saturday, October 19, from 9AM to Noon.  Volunteers are needed to plant 25 trees and spread wood chip mulch in the surrounding planting beds.  City staff will demonstrate to volunteers how to plant a tree at the beginning of the event.  Arbor Day is sponsored by the City of Benicia with support from the Benicia Tree Foundation.

Volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, gloves and face masks if social distancing is a concern.  Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Tools will be provided.  All volunteers must sign a liability waiver which can be found on the Benicia Tree Foundation website – Click here.

Southampton Park was the site of the city’s first Arbor Day event in 2010 when 20 Tulip Trees  (Liriodendron tulipifera) were planted in the park along Panorama and Chelsea Hills Drives with the help of a local girl scout troop and other community members.
