BTF Needs New Board Members

Are you interested in helping to strengthen our community through tree planting, maintenance and education?  We have a proposition for you.  BTF seeks a change in leadership in 2025 through the recruitment of new board members.  We hope our record of accomplishments will help you consider this leadership opportunity worthy of your time.

Since 2009, BTF has:

  • completed a project on every Benicia Unified School District campus, planting 489 trees;
  • Supported Benicia’s Tree City USA status thru annual Arbor Day events and sponsoring projects on city property that includes 12 parks and 313 new trees;
  • Planted 48 trees on I-780 in an effort to replace the hundreds of trees Caltrans has removed in the past several decades;
  • Supported 22 projects on private property for a total of 142 trees; and
  • Assisted numerous local scout groups with their community service projects.

This progress should continue.  The need for trees in Benicia has not diminished and a potential exists for even greater achievements in the future.  Many students, organizations and businesses seek community service projects.

BTF has been grateful to the community for its participation in this work.  Since 2015, 1,961 volunteers who have been recruited and given back 3,776 hours of their time to demonstrate their appreciation and love for Benicia.  These volunteers come from our neighborhoods, schools, service organizations and area employers such as Valero, Travis AFB, and Sutter Health.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity email us at info@beniciatrees.org.  At a minimum, the Board needs a President, Treasurer and Secretary.  Since 2018, our operating budgets have been about $5,000 annually. The existing Board is willing to assist new board members in this transition.

BTF will be scheduling volunteer events through this spring.  Our website www.beniciatrees.org will remain online to the end of the year.  Without a new board, the current board members will notify the State Attorney General of board’s dissolution as of December 31, 2025.

Respectfully submitted,

Alison Fleck, Steven Goetz, and Barbara Wood
